Our movie begins with an over-ambitious drama theatre owner, Sunny Khanna (Rakesh Bapat), who dreams of finding the girl from his dreams. He wants her “dupatta” (scarf) to flare across his face. Been there, done that! Seems like this film will remind me of some other films.

As I awaited to see how this story unfolds, I already found myself looking for the fast forward button, because it seems that I have become psychic, and I could already predict the mind-numbing plot.

So we have an Indian family who has forgotten all its values. We have the head of the household K.K (Kader Khan) and his wife Neem (Navneet Nishan) living in beautiful London. Their crazy family includes their son Harry (who has a wife, who chats with Americans online, while he frolicks with a mistress), their daughter (a hoochie) named Sweety; I already mentioned their younger son, Sunny; a daughter named Dolly (nice girl); a drunk uncle (who lost his wife and son); and who can forget, a religious Dadi, who wishes she lived in India. I was surprised that there was no pet dog.

Anyway, this family has problems. So to complicate things, K.K’s friend, Dr. Verma (Anupum Kher), asks for a favour, that his niece, Mahek (Richa Pallod), be allowed to stay with them, while he goes for a conference.

Can we not guess that Sunny falls for Mahek at first sight? Can we also not guess, that despite Sunny trying to help his family be normal, it takes a stranger’s touch to do it? Shall I continue? I suppose I am a bit too critical. Reason? The movie’s dialogues are a bit too preachy about Indian culture and values.

To continue, everyone is becoming normal when Dadi dies of chest pains. The family thinks its because Mahek said something cruel to her, but in reality Dadi dies because Mahek was telling her about her heart illness. Mahek is asked to leave the house. Dr. Verma comes back to tell the family the truth and suddenly, they want Mahek back. She undergoes a dangerous operation, will she survive to love Sunny?

The problem with the movie is that there are too many sub-plots. Its also hard to digest that Mahek, despite being a guest, acts like a know-it-all Indian. I mean, others might get annoyed with the sudden changes in the family’s characters.

Out of the performances, Richa Pallod impresses. She is a young in the industry, but she makes the film watchable to a certain extent. Rakesh Bapat is improving and complements his co-star well. The veteran actors are wasted and the rest of the cast are average tv serial stars.

Music by Nikhil-Vinay is average. There is a song after every 5 minutes, and this slackens the pace of an already slow film. The comedy track is also quite lame and amateurish.

In such a serious drama, one requires to evoke the viewer’s emotions, but this film fails to do so. That is why, when Mahek is in operation, one fails to be concerned that she make it alive (Kal Ho Naa Ho is an excellent example of touching our heart strings).

Sadly, this film will please only a select few, probably the older generation.
