Producer-director Harmesh Malhotra (of Nagina and Dulhe Raja fame) teams up once again 4 years later with the Hero no.1 Govinda in Akhiyon Se Goli Maare (their other venture Tutu Sharmaīs Khullum Khulla Pyar Karen is stuck in the cans). Will this song-titled film prove as big as a hit as their last venture Dulhe Raja? Only time will tell but the songs are no different from the usual Govinda fare of late which have been aimed at the paanwalas and rikshawallas. The soundtrack begins with Gore Tan Se Sarakta Jaye with Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik. Sounding much like a Punjabi folk song, the lead singers do an able job describing their love and the hero describing how he won over the girl and her father. It definitely isnīt the "item" number some Govinda soundtracks open with but it is still a recognizable Govinda number. The original Akhiyon Se Goli Maare duo of Sonu Nigam and Jaspinder Narula return in Akkh Jo Tujh Se Lad Gayi Re (music by Anand Raaj Anand). Nothing like Akhiyon Se of four years ago, the duo do not have the same zest they had 4 years ago which was perhaps one of the top 10 songs of their career. This time around they fail to recreate the magic, hopefully the same wonīt be said of the on-screen pair of Govinda and Raveena Tandon. Udit Naryan and Alka Yagnik return in the obligatory Punjabi song Rabba O Rabba (lyric by Dev Kohli). It is nice to hear Udit after the opening two tracks with Sonu Nigam. Both singers do an apt job with this routine Anand-Milind track. Also another typical Govinda number where the hero describes his love to the girl and how great she is. Dehradun Ka Chuna Lagaya follows with Vinod Rathod (yes heīs still around) and Sunidhi Chauhan (music by Daboo Malik). If there was ever a number written for the U.P. folks this is it. The song opens with Dehradun and paan, need I say more? Govinda is soon going to have to either shift base to U.P. or run for parliament there with all his films having one or two numbers for the region. One thing about Rathod is that he always infuses that enthusiasm needed for a Govinda number, something that the other singers sometimes lack. No wonder he was Govindaīs first choice for playback singer before Sonu Nigam came into the scene four or five years ago. Thereīs more of Vinod but this time with Alka Yagnik in the next number Ladka Mud Mud Ke Maare. Instead of saying Akhiyon Se Goli Maare we have Maare Akhiyon Se Goli. Either way this could qualify for the title track. Nothing brilliant here, just another Anand-Milind , Sameer assembly line product. O Chhori Gori Gori with Sonu Nigam and Jaspinder Narula is next. Another teaser number where the hero states how the girlīs friend has so many excuses. The girl retialates by saying she hates such bachelors. The number seems like it was along the same lines of the Soldier tune by the same duo "Tera Rang Balle Balle," which seems like a classic compared to this Anand-Milind product of the same singing duo. Vinod Rathod (yes once again), Sonu Nigam, and Sanjeevani are next with Thumka Lagake Naacho (music by Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen). Johny Lever has his obligatory opening line in the track but Vinod dominates with this dance number. Instead of Govinda, Vinod sings for Kadar Khan as he plays the "Sasur" to apna Govinda in this wedding function number. The soundtrack closes with the same duo it opened with Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik. Maine Tujhe Dekha is another peppy Govinda number but does not hold a candle to some of his item numbers of the past. One wonders why Anand-Milind could not come up with at least two -three decent numbers and despite the "guest" music directors the soundtrack does not appeal. As for the film, it is basically about a cop who falls in love with a jewel thief. Who plays the cop and who plays the thief? Letīs just say Akhiyon Se Goli Maare, is that a good enough hint? If not see the film when it opens in late August. |
