GOVINDA is back again with older brother KIRTI KUMAR behind the camera in SUPER GOOD FILMS PYAAR DIWANA HOTA HAI. The film´s music lives upto the title, meaning there are a number of romantic numbers by music maestro UTTAM SINGH. Is this another DIL TO PAGAL HAI or another HUM TUM PE MARTE HAIN? Read on and decide for yourself.

The soundtrack opens with the romantic title number sung by UDIT NARAYAN and KAVITA KRISHNAMURTHY. Pyaar Diwana Hota Hai has a catchy rhythm and upbeat tempo but also reminds one of another recent UTTAM SINGH number from FARZ. The song is pleasant to the ear with both singers lending able support and bringing out the emotions for the crazy emotion of love.

Next we have DEEWANE DIL NE with HARIHARAN and PREETI UTTAM. This is another romantic track with Hariharan singing for GOVINDA for the first time in his career. Preeti lends able support and hopefully we´ll hear more of her in the near future. Hariharan is at his usual best giving us another respectable love song.

After this we have SONU NIGAM and PREETI UTTAM in the obligatory PUNJABI number KYA DELHI KYA JALANDAR. Since the film is set in DELHI I guess this number does have a relevant need to be in the film. It is a nice peppy number giving a change to the two opening romantic tracks. Sonu adds the needed liveliness for a CHICHI number and Preeti is again in fine form.

Next we have PYAR ACHHA HOTA HAI with JASPINDER NARULA. A tailor made song for RANI MUKHERJI, the heroine of this production, the song describes the plight of love in one´s heart. Jaspinder has sung such numbers before but this one has an interesting combination of chords and a beat that holds your attention, making it another good number.

YE KYA JADU with UDIT NARAYAN follows. Another fast Punjabi track but unlike ones from previous CHICHI films, this one doesn´t get on your nerves after the first few times. Narayan is his fine self as usual mainly because Udit has sung more numbers like this than AMRISH PURI has said MOGAMBO KHUSH HUA at functions.

Following this we have TERI AANKHEN BOLTI HAIN with ALKA YAGNIK and GOVINDA. No ChiChi doesn´t exactly sing but, well you´ll have to listen to the song to figure it out. For some odd reason the soundtrack lists the male vocalist as VINOD RATHOD but anyone with even remote hearing capabilities can figure out it´s Govinda. It is a humorous number which hints at what the film is about. Although there is an upbeat, catchy rhythm, it may be the only number on the soundtrack you may want to skip since it is definitely a situational song in the film. Alka brings the song to life indeed, and also with Govinda, being well Govinda.

Next we have another version of PYAAR ACHHA HOTA HAI with JASPINDER once again. The refrains are different and this version is about one minute longer.

The soundtrack closes with the THEME MUSIC with PRETTI UTTAM doing an excellent vocal humming of the title track. It is a nice end to a romantic soundtrack and makes you wish there were more films with theme music such as this.

All in all, the music of PYAAR DIWANA HOTA HAI is a good buy if you´re looking for a variety of romantic numbers which are pleasant and easy on the ear. There is one avoidable situational song but the rest of the numbers definitely make this soundtrack better than CHICHI´s last film with UTTAM SINGH, HUM TUM ME PARTE HAIN.

As for the film, it is a South remake with GOVINDA playing the lead character. In the film, ChiChi pretends to be a mute lover to win over his ladylove mainly because he believes she will never accept him based on his looks alone. This is KIRTI KUMAR´s first attempt at an out and out contemporary romantic film (RADHA KA SANGAM was essentially a rural, period film) but not with a south remake as his masterpiece HATYA was based upon a Southie. The supporting cast consists of RANI MUKHERJI, FARIDA JALAL, APOORVA AGNIHOTRI, DEEPAK TIJORI, and OM PURI. Govinda needs a hit desperately, let´s see if his brother can help him in his search. For now though UTTAM SINGH has helped in giving a winning soundtrack for our HERO NO. 1.
