In this new era of beats and groovy sounds, UK band Trickbaby fits the bill for the title song Pyare Mohan. Mainly composed from a perspective of a theme than a song, it carries punchy beats and small violin bits make it catchy. The guitar chords are also wonderfully used as well as the ‘very’ Indian chorus. Though there are heavy influences from Robbie William’s music, it’s something fresh and will work as a promotional video. Lyrics are by Hussain and Ager. The track just shows that there are so many ways to present a song; just change the format, the singers and the sounds. Creativity has no limits. Anu Malik shocks us again but this time in a good way with the Har Mohan Ki Koyi Radha track. He composes something different this time. Although the start is greatly inspired from Main Hoon Na’s Tumse Milke Dil Ka, the rest is quite situational. Musically packed with all sorts of sounds and different chorus, Udit Narayan and Shaan deliver average performances. The song can’t be complete without the tablas, the rap pieces and the heavy guitars. A nice fusion overall but could have been better!
The album has four different versions of Tu Jahan Bhi Jaayegi – I Love You My Angel. Habits are hard to change! Anu Malik borrows heavily from The Ventures’s Walk Don’t Run! The long version is rendered by Kunal Ganjawala, who shows his ability to sing with passion. This one starts with stale preludes accompanied by the usual chorus. It is supposed to be melodious but the tune lacks this hit factor! With friendly interludes, Anu Malik produces something typical to his style but not trendy in 2006. He makes great use of the guitar (which was disappearing in his songs) and the orchestration is excellent as well. Kunal Ganjawala is credited for the Groovy Remix by DJ Suketu which is very bad!
The Part 1 and Part 2 are rendered by Udit Narayan which are slow and short. Part 3 is by Udit Narayan and Sadhana Sargam.
Day by day, everyone is getting to know that Anu Malik has a habit of rehashing his own tunes and the present one is Day by Day Mera Pyar. The mukhda is a direct lift from Aaghaaz’s Dil Dil Dil. Interestingly, it was both Sonu Nigam and Sameer who rendered and penned the songs respectively. Sameer also picked up on the same lines as the Dil Dil Dil song which has lines like ‘No Monday. No Sunday. Everyday is a fun day’. I do not understand why Anu Malik decided to use this tune again (after 6 years). Worst is that, the same tune is slightly inspired from the 80’s band, Barbarella, which had a hit song Sucker for You Love. Coming to the song now, it carries a heavy use of the guitar and Sonu Nigam renders in the same style of ´No Entry’. Nothing to praise about!
With heavy Arabian influences, Ek Rub Sach Hai is the only different song of the album and can be qualified as an above average track. The gregorian interlude is worthy to note coupled with high pitch singing by Richa Sharma and Krishna. Krishna manages the classical bits very well. Orchestration deserves ten out of ten.
Anu Malik has produced hit songs with two female singers in one same song like in Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega’s Piya Piya and Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai’s Maine Koi Jadoo, both by the Preity and Pinky duo. Here, Sunidhi Chauhan and Nikita Nigam embark in the same train of singing for Rabba De Di Deewani, which is a direct lift from Algerian singer Cheikha Rimitti’s Sidi Mansour. The track has generous doses of Latino guitars and is packed with different voices for the chorus, making it lively and energetic. Girls’ power prevails throughout with Sameer’s lyrics being somehow funny with words like ‘diamonds and Ferrari!’.
During the early 90’s, the Anand-Milind and Indra Kumar team had super hit music with Dil and Beta. But Anand-Milind blatantly lifted most tunes from the South. In 1995, then popular Nadeem-Shravan produced excellent music for Raja, with the song Nazren Mili Dil Dhadka being the only lift which created controversy. In 1997, Ishq’s soundtrack was making waves while some of songs were direct lifts as well! Sanjeev-Darshan continued the lifting spree with films like Mann, Aashiq and Rishtey, having most songs copied! So Pyare Mohan is no exception. Indra Kumar movies is said to have good music but all this supposedly good music is simply plagiarized. Over the years, it can be noted that the quality of music for an Indra Kumar movie has deteriorated. Only the neglected Anand Raaj Anand gave him original music for Masti. Anu Malik tries a more trendy style with most songs. However, he misses the target. His orchestration is excellent throughout and credit also goes to Ranjit Barot for his arrangement. With new music composers churning truly original songs these days, it’s a big shame that Anu lifts two tunes as a senior music composer. Ek Rab Sach Hai and UK band Trickbaby’s Pyare Mohan are nice as well. The downfall of Anu Malik has officially begun. |

Anu Malik is currently going through a phase where big banners have left him and where many directors have moved to rival Himesh Reshammiya. Is the magic of his music disappearing? Musical Malik’s work always speaks for itself even though he likes publicity of all sorts, recently with Himesh Reshammiya. Pyare Mohan is crucial for Fardeen Khan and Vivek Oberoi, who badly need a hit these days!
