I hesitate as I pick up the audio tape and give it a once-over. A
not-so-flattering picture of Kajol, and a
not-so-attractive cast (Jackie Shroff,
Kajol, Atul Agnihotri (!) and Ayesha Jhulka (!))...and as far as the producing
unit...well...huh?
The audio begins with the title song, a solo by Alka Yagnik. The song
is a upbeat, innocent, spirited song of newfound love. The song is very nicely sung, in a
lighthearted manner...imagine Kajol in DDLJ's Mere
Khawbon Mein Jo Aye...the fresh innocence is captivating and catchy...the music is
subtle but energetic...just like the song. Definitely a hit song
candidate!
The next song, sung by Anand Raaj Anand (HUH?), Haiyo
Hikko Hikko Ni (translation, anyone?), is actually a very upbeat, fresh
song....fantastic beats, catchy, and not bad singing ! It's a nice change, from, say Kumar
Sanu, more like a refreshing voice (like Sonu Nigam or Jaspindar Narula) without
screeching (Ila Arun). And the lyrics, though a bit silly, has fantastic punjabi jargon
mixed with Hindi... following the Punjabi masala trend nicely (Hey, being a Punjabi...I
have a major softspot for Punjabi masala!). It is sung once again by Kavita
Krishnamurthy, and just as enjoyable the second time around. Easily one of the
better songs.... Catchy!
O-Jane-Ja is a Udit-Sadhana Sargam duet....Udit
is superb, as usual, but Sadhana is still suffering from sickly-sweet singing... another
"fresh and young" song...but it's beginning to get monotonous.... not bad, not
outstanding. Lyrics are typical lovey dovey whatever. Good timepass
Side B begins with a slow song by Kumar Sanu, Jab Tum Mere.
SLow, and quite boring. I can imagine Atul (or Jackie) droning on and on and on at some
function, watching his ladylove dance with some other guy. Blah. Next!
Pyar Wale Rang is an intense solo by Chitra.
Chitra's voice fills the song with much feeling as the background is filled with
qawaali-type singers and a different variation of beats and music. Definitely different
from the basic fun and fresh songs so far, and a nice change as well. Sounds more like a
song from Bombay. Interesting
The last song, Laddu Motichur Ka, sung by Alka Yagnik and Poornima,
is the Dandia song of the album (to balance the Haiyo Hikko Punjabi masala). Nothing
particularly great, typical Garba song. Sheesh...they could have spared us the desperate
attempt of English ! (Shaadi hai voh Lou-taareee [Lottery]). Okay
