Director of several masaladar films, Harry Baweja, is returning to the foray in a different genre this time around, but his favorite, Ajay Devgan, remains. ‘Main Aisa Hi Hoon’ is a romantic drama with a touch of sensitivity. Esha Deol, who has co-starred with Devgan in Insaf and the most recent Kaal, features with Sushmita Sen playing a commanding supporting character.

Main Aisa Hi Hoon reveolves around Neel Thakur (Ajay Devgan), a mentally retarded man who has the brain of a seven year old. He has grown popular in the village and found love with Maya Trivedi (Esha Deol). The two get married and have a young girl Gungun. Neel is torn when Maya walks out on him and their newborn baby girl. Neel is forced to raise his daughter on his own, struggling with his own handicap and trying to raise her into a strong girl as well.

They’re life takes a twist when after seven years, Maya returns back into their life. Maya, with the support of her parents, have returned because they want full custody of Gungun. Neel is hurt as they use his handicap against him. For help he turns to Neeti Khanna (Sushmita Sen), a lawyer who promises to help him keep custody of his child, despite being hesitant to accept the case initially. Main Aisa Hi Hoon describes the tribulations Neel faces as a handicapped person, the hardships he will face which are heightened in the court room, and highlights the difference in parent that is handicapped and that that chooses to walk out on their children.
