Produced by Anubhav Sinha in collaboration with Sahara Movie Studios and Bharat Shah, director Soumik Sen's, "Gulaab Gang" is a story about a gang of Indian women dressed in pink coloured saris fighting against injustice. Featuring Madhuri Dixit (Rajjo) and Juhi Chawla (Sumitra Devi), the film is set in a rural village.
The whole film focuses on the election war between her and the shrewd politician Sumitra. Their fight for victory is what forms the entire film. For the first time ever two contemporaries are seen playing against each other. Both brilliant, its hard to say who outshines whom especially in their confrontation scenes. Its nice to see the always bubbling onscreen lady Juhi play evil in this film. She in fact knocked it off pretty well, I must say. Madhuri's act is impressive as well, especially her high octane action sequences making it a 'macho' film no less. These 90's stars are back in form, giving newcomers some tough competition. The film also boasts of stellar performances by Divya Jagdale, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Priyanka Bose. The story, screenplay, dialogues, music and direction everything is clean and crisp. Other technical aspects like cinematography, editing, art direction and choreography are of high-standard. Kudos to Anubhav Sinha and Soumik Sen for showcasing the 'Power Of Pink' (Naari-Shakti) in the truest sense of the word. Rating: 4 Stars
