Mary Kom wins the National Award for Best Popular Film

Viacom18 Motion Pictures & Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Mary Kom, starring Priyanka Chopra, bagged the National Award for 'Best Popular Film providing wholesome entertainment', at the 62nd National Film Awards 2015 in a formal list announcement made by the national panel appointed by the government at India Center, Delhi.

With films like Mary Kom, Bollywood stood up to showcase the achievements of women through its films. While magnificent Mary boxed her way to glory at the Asian Games that year, the biopic starring Priyanka Chopra in and as Mary Kom went on to make box office history .The biopic entered the highly coveted 100-crore club and became the highest opener for a female-lead driven film.

Commenting on the win says producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, 'It is a huge honour for me to be associated with 3 films that have won National Award honors. Mary Kom, is a film I am truly proud of . We had a compelling story to tell of a strong determined woman who has done the nation proud. I'm happy that the spirit of Magnificent Mary has been recognized and honored. "

The National Awards will be handed out by President Pranab Mukherjee on May 3 in New Delhi's Vigyan Bhawan.
