Director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan has won the Indira Gandhi Award For Best Debut Film of A Director at the 57th National Film Awards this year. The announcement of the award was made on 15th September, 2010 afternoon. Sanjay won the award for his first Film Lahore, which already had won many International Awards. Sanjay will be honoured with a ‘Swarna Kamal’ and a cash prize of Rs 1, 25,000/- and the same for the Producer Mr Vivek Khatkar of Sai Om Films Pvt. Ltd. At the same time Actor Farooq Shekh also won Best Supporting Actor award for Sanjay’s film LAHORE. The awards were announced at the Shastri Bhawan in the national capital. “This is a very special moment for me. I am honoured and deeply touch by getting the National Award for 'Lahore'. It is the ultimate encouragement and faith in the first movie I made. I am glad that 'Lahore' with its simple storyline won the heart of the international and national audience. I hope that I keep up with the expectations of everyone in the future. Though, it is going to take some time to sink in the fact that I have won a National Award for my first attempt in the field that I truly love. ” is what Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan says on his historical achievement.

He promises to make a meaningful commercial cinema which has a realistic concept. The astonishing part about him is that he has never undergone any training in film direction. He has broken a myth that a person who has never assisted to any director and have not done any direction courses and cannot direct a good film. His movie Lahore was his first ever experience in Bollywood sets. Sanjay made it through without any God father.
