Kaun is Ramu's next biggie - or actually smallie because
Ramu finished shooting for this low-budget film in 40 days, I believe. The suspense-comedy
has only three characters, played by Urmila Matondkar, Manoj Bajpai and Sushant Kumar.
The film does not have any songs, reason being that songs would have hindered the pace of
the thriller. The audio has a track called "Who's that?" where Urmila and Manoj
say a few words and leave the rest to Sandeep's singers. The orchestration does remind you
of the theme song of Ramu's very own Daud - "The thump of Daud". Apart from this
pretty interesting "song" and an unbilled instrumental track of background music
from the movie at the end of Side A, the album has nothing new to offer - and I mean
literally.
Excess audio space - there's a lot of that - is filled with songs from Dil Se and Satya.
This is where Venus could have done better. I mean - WHO doesn't have the audio of Dil Se
or even that of Satya? Venus should have included less popular - but still enjoyable -
songs in the album. Only then people would have thought of buying the soundtrack of Kaun.
