While the importance of education cannot be undermined, the belief that people, who did not have formal education, will not have a career to their name is not true either. A person writes his own destiny and that is what Sam Fernandes did. The man, who grew up in a suburb in Mumbai, dropped out of school when he was in fifth standard. Though studies did not interest him, he was determined to make it big in life. The entrepreneur-cum-filmmaker, who has worked on multiple films including Hollywood films like ‘Star Wars Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace’, ‘X-Men’ and ‘Ice Age’, among others has produced his first web show titled ‘Joyride’ for Voot.
Talking about the show, he says, “I am really happy to take the plunge in the digital space with ‘Joyride’. I started my career in Hollywood and was closely involved with the marketing of several big films there. In Bollywood too, I have worked on big films like ‘Parineeta’, ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ and ‘Wanted’, among others. I have other businesses. I work as a boxing promoter and IPS bandwidth provider but filmmaking is my primary passion. After ‘Joyride’, I hope to produce more shows in the near future.”
When asked whether he regrets dropping out of school, he replies, “I do not have any regrets in life. Education gives you the knowledge to do a lot of things but at the end of the day, what you practically implement in life matters. You must have the right attitude and the willpower to achieve your dreams.”
