Some might find the trend of films releasing on the small screen new but the fact is that when the satellite boom happened in the early 90s, a lot of filmmakers chose to release their films directly on TV networks as they thought it would fetch them better dividends than releasing them in theatres.
One such film was Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Phir Teri Kahaani Yaad Aayee’. Instead of getting a regular theatrical release, the Rahul Roy-Pooja Bhatt starrer premiered on Zee TV. The film is remembered for its brilliant soundtrack which had a bunch of wonderful songs like “Dil Deta Hai Ro Ro Duhaai”, “Badalon Mein Chup Rahai Hai Chand” and “Tere Dar Par Sanam”.
Now, twenty-six years later, Pooja Bhatt sees another film of hers (though this time she is behind the camera as a producer) releasing on Zee Network. ‘Cabaret, a film which she co-produced with T-Series, releases today on Zee5, Zee’s digital streaming platform. The promos had started airing on television and the film was scheduled to hit the theatres in 2016 but the release got stalled because of some reason and now it finally gets a release on the streaming platform.
