This Ajay Devgan, Twinkle Khanna starrer, described as "History of Love" is directed by Raj Kanwar (Jaan, Jeet, Judaai).
The album starts with a nice duet "Dil ki kalam se.....naya itihaas likhenge" sung by Hariharan (inlay card wrongly credits the song to Kumar Sanu) and Alka Yagnik. It has hummable tune and good wordings. Although not a copy, it reminds of "Dil ne dil se" duet by the same singers, composed by the same music directors from the movie "Haqeeqat" with the same hero.
The second number is a "cheap" song "Gora mukhda hai uspe lat kaali, aachco machco kya karoon Ram", sung by Alka Yagnik and chorus. It flirts with vulgarity with wordings like "ho gayee kurti chhoti" and "meri choli ke toote sab dhaage".
The third song is a typical dance song "Sathi mere tere bina" sung by Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik and chorus. It has "Dandiya" beat.
The last song is a qawali style number "Yeh ishq bada bedardi hai raat din sataye" sung by Alka Yagnik and K. Pappu. It starts with "Punjabi Heer music". The wordings have "ishq" too many times (everything is ishq ishq). The song becomes annoying particularly towards the end when everything becomes "ishq hai".
The first song on side B is an ordinary number "Pyar ka dushman rab ka dushman" sung by Alka Yagnik, Sukhvinder, Shankar Mahadevan and chorus. It is a sad song, obviously picturized when the hero and the heroine have been separated (juda apne dilbar se hone lagi hai, mohabbat mohabbat ko rone lagi hai). The male singers sing the second paragraph with punjabi wordings.
The second song "Chori chori dil diya jata hai" is an average number sung by Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik and chorus. The chorus reciting "chori chori" every now and then is a major distraction. The song starts out as fast and happy number but ends on slow and sad note.
The third song is a beautiful classical number "Ja ja udd ja re panchi" sung by Alka Yagnik, Sukhvinder and Shankar Mahadevan. Alka Yagnik (who does most of the singing) has sung it very well.
The cassette finishes with an ordinary number with silly wordings. "Bol bol rani, ladki diwani" is sung by Vinod Rathod, Alka Yagnik and Mangal Singh. The redeeming feature of the song is second paragraph where Mangal Singh comes on with punjabi folk tune singing "Balle balle tu chhad kudiyan nu chhedna".
In the past Nadeem Shravan have composed hit music for Raj Kanwar directed movies (Deewana, Jeet, Judaai). It is pity that for his maiden production, he settled for an average musical score.
