For those that thought multi-super star films could only come in the form of Hum Saath Saath Hain, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham or Lajja, think again! Sanjay Guptaīs vastly hyped Kaante, is bringing a male-oriented film with a massive male star cast that lacks the candy floss romance, lacks the Yash Chopra backdrop and lacks the running around tree stamp. Kaante is clearly not your normal film. Meet The Masters- You Canīt Prepare Yourself For Where They Will Take You
Amitabh Bachchan is Yashvardhan Rampal a.k.a. Major, Sanjay Dutt is Jay Rehan a.k.a. Ajju- Tempting Fate and Defying Destiny, Lucky Ali is Maqbool Haider a.k.a. Mak, Sunil Shetty is Mark Isaac a.k.a. "The Bouncer", Kumar Gaurav is Anand Mathur a.k.a Andy- The Wrong Guy At The Wrong Place and the last aggressive man is Mahesh Manjrekar as Raj Yadav a.k.a. Baali.
To add to the uniquity, Kaante will have two soundtracks. One which is said to consist of music by several composers including Anand Raj Anand, Vijuh Shah, Lucky Ali, Adnan Sami, Sulaiman and Salim Merchant (Moksha) and Shiamak Davar (choreographer for certain songs in Taal and Dil To Pagal Hai) contribute to the instrumentalism and musical soundtrack of the film. Gupta has decided to release the soundtrack on 2 CDīs, which means there are two different soundtracks, the instrumental based one, with a few vocal tunes, and the songs, both of which promise a lot. For those that are tired of getting "a free CD with this soundtrack", this extra CD is truly something more than extra. Those that have seen it heard it, felt it, canīt say enough about it. The star cast speaks for itself, and while some may declare Kaante "A Macho Manīs Film", Gupta says that there are female actresses in the film. (One can remember the recent drama regarding Lisa Rayīs departure and Raveena Tandonīs abrupt departure), and Gupta has clearly stated that he has not completely ignored the female audience. The film, for those unaware is about six hardcore criminals whom are all unique in their characteristics in comparison to the other. It is rumored to be an Indianized version of Reservoir Dogs. Those that have been on the streets and in the rough are quite aware of the attitudes and the "stuff" needed to make it. Together these criminals, Major, Ajju, Baali, Andy, Mak and "The Bouncer" come together to pull of the biggest dream crime possible. However, one can remember the statement, "United We Stand, Divided We Fall"; for these crime buffs to pull this crime off successfully, they must all become one, friends, “compadres”, partners. After the intense struggle to overcome the fear of betrayal from their own kind, this clan begins their plan only to be slapped in the face with their own hands. Who is the traitor? Sanjay Guptaīs preview of the film has been receiving rave reviews from those that saw glimpses of it, for not only its acting (with such a cast of both super-stars and under-dogs, how could it not?) but itīs music, and intensity. Gupta and everyone involved promise a film that only "changes paces from fast to faster!" The film is set to hit the marquee between March and April with the soundtrack releasing in February 2002. |
