SRK Chose To Swim Against The Tide With 'Kaun Banega Crorepati'
- Abid           Let us know what you think about this story

Shah Rukh Khan's take-over of the show , 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' , so long associated with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan , is complete .

He relaunched the show on 22nd January for its third edition with panache & style very much his own( not trying to outdo Mr. Bachchan) . He smiled his dimpled smile , he massaged the tense shoulders of contestants, he changed his accent to echo the regions represented by the people in the hot seat & he gifted his precious - & expensive - watches , he hugged , he laughed & he conquered- the contestants , the live audience & the millions who had tuned in to see if he could reach out beyond the shadows of Mr. Bachchan. For the many who were expecting him to do a Bachchan , he must have been disappointing ; for the others who were waiting for SRK to turn on his charm & make the show his own , it must have been gratifying to see that King Khan has lost none of his magnetism.

The general verdict after the first show was that a bit- nervous and seemed over-compensating in his effors to entertain . But these are endearing qualities and will serve the show well.

Amitabh Bachchan was fabulous as the host of KBC & so is Shah Rukh Khan in his trademark style , despite the two styles being so vastly different.

Not many seem to realise that Shah Rukh Khan has chosen to swim against the tide with 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' . There are many factors that do not auger well for the show . The format is identical to its earlier editions & the novelty of the contest is lost . As it, is the popularity of the later of who 'Wants To Be A Millionaire? (on which KBC is based) has declined . The prime time of Indian television has become sustantially more competitive , & cricket matches being played presently are also expected to cut into the KBC viewership . Not surprisingly , the rating for the showed substantial decline since it clashed with the cricket match that India won against West Indies.

Be that as it may , SRK has triumphed over the first major hurdle by overcoming the dominating presence of Mr. Amitabh Bachchan over the show . He is probably the only star who can pull it off.... he's done it before & he will surely do it again!
