Big makers like Yash Chopra , Rakesh Roshan and Karan Johar are extremely upset with UTV's claims about 'Rang De Basanti' being the second biggest hit of the current decade after macho man Sunny Deol's 'Gadar- Ek Prem Katha ' .The producers of 'Rang De Basanti' - UTV Motion Pictures and Rakeysh Mehra had in the ads placed in two leading dailies claimed that the Aamir Khan starrer had made total net box-office collections in the domestic circuit of over Rs 50 crores , leaving behind big titles including 'Koi.. Mil Gaya' (Rakesh Roshan - Rs 49 crores ) , 'Kabhi khushi Kabhi Gham - (Johar - Rs. 45 crores ) and 'Bunty Aur Babli' (Yash Chopra - Rs. 42 crores) . The data for all the movies , apart from 'Rang De Basanti' has been sourced from a dubious and by now exposed source/site .
UTV chairman Ronnie Screwala said things had calmed down after he had apologised to Johar and Aditya Chopra . " If he has issued an apology , I have not seen it ," responded Johar . Rakesh Roshan on the other hand says that , "Ronnie does not seem to be aware of the correct figure for my films . But I am not planning any legal action against UTV right now ." Chopra away in Paris , was not available for comment . And what about the dubious source from where the questionable nett box-office earnings were sourced ? Well , they have gone offline/on the blink , to avoid further embarassment .
