Bollywood producers let out a collective gasp today, as actor Sanjay Dutt was sentenced to six years in prison for his involvement with the 1993 bomb blasts. Judge P.D. Kode brought the highly controversial thirteen-year case to a close by stating that Mr. Dutts actions were “dangerous” and showed a “high element of criminality”. Dutt was found guilty for the illegal possession of a 9mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle. The actor was also fined Rs. 25,000.

Bollywood has over 50 crores invested in future projects that were to star the actor, it is unclear at this time as to the status of those projects.

Mr. Dutt was immediately taken into custody, as ordered by the judge who rejected the actor’s plea of leniency. The actor was visibly shaken as he pleaded to no avail with the Judge Kode. The sentence comes just one day after Dutt’s 48th birthday. He was refused the chance for bail, or to call his daughter Trishala (who resides in New York).

Dutt is currently being held in Arthur Road jail and is being visited by his family and lawyers. The actor has already previously served 16 months in jail for charges related to the 1993 bomb blasts.
