'Saawariya' Versus 'Om Shant Om'- The History Of Big Multiple Releases!

Frankly, this war is more a figment of media’s imagination than one being waged by the people connected with the two films. There have been many instances in the past also, when two films released on the same day have gone on to become hits. ‘Gadar-Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Lagaan’ come to mind instantly and so do ‘Dil’ and ‘Ghayal’.

Although ‘Raja Hindustani’ and ‘Ghatak’ were not released on the same day, they came during the same 'Diwali' week (one film was released on Friday, the other mid-week).

Needless to add that all the above mentioned films were successful, many of them, huge hits.

Way back in 1974, not two but three films that released on the same day (October 18, 1974), ‘Roti’, ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makaan' and ‘Bidaai’ were all hugely successful.

So, rather than speculative guesses about which of the two films, ‘Om Shanti Om’ or ‘Saawariya’ will win laurels, we should hope that both the films do well and make their makers proud.
