While the debate is on about the wisdom of two biggies releasing on the same day, we bring you the views of three different sources, showman Subhash Ghai and a top filmmaker in India and Pranab Kapadia, the UK head of Adlabs.
As per showman Subhash Ghai, " People have already made up their minds to see both the films. So, there is no question of one adversely affecting the collections of the other." Pranab Kapadia, the UK head of Adlabs, however, has a different take on the simultaneous release of the two films. Says Kapadia from London, " I feel 'Saawariya' should not have clashed with 'Om Shanti Om'. For one, in the UK, it's not like in India. Here Hindi films are second to English films. The availability of screens is a problem. With two big films releasing on the same day, the problem is bigger. Obviously, between Shah Rukh Khan and newcomers, Shah Rukh will be the first choice. Secondly, with pirated DVD's flooding the market immediately after release, people, after the first weekend, would prefer seeing the other film on DVD, because admission rates are high." A top filmmaker, wishing to remain anonymous, remarked, " It would have been better if 'Saawariya' had come two weeks later. It would have had an entire week to itself."
