Megastar Amitabh Bachchan was admitted to the Escorts Hospital in New Delhi with symptoms of severe abdominal pain , early today . He is undergoing a series of tests including CT scan, ultra sound and a series of blood tests to ascertain the cause of the abdominal pain.

According to the hospital director and leading cardiologist Naresh Trehan "His condition is stable ."

His wife Jaya Bachchan, son Abhishek and close friend and Samajwadi Party MP Amar Singh were by the actor's side at the hospital . According to Amar Singh , the megastar could leave the hospital any moment and would like to leave for Mumbai where he would consult his family doctors.

Meanwhile, a large number of people, gathered around the hospital as news about the star spread. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh , Mulayam Singh Yadav also visited the hospital to enquire about his health .
