Aamir Khan marries Kiran Rao

Shunning pomp and grandeur, Aamir and Kiran exchanged vows and rings at a simple ceremony in the presence of family members and friends at suburban Bandra.

"It was a very simple affair. Apart from Rani Mukherjee there was no one else from Bollywood. The rest of the guests were family and friends. At seven pm, they exchanged vows and rings and then signed in the presence of the registrar," said his lawyer Jameela Dumani.

The extent to which Aamir had gone to keep the media away was evident from the fact that even security at the gate was being changed every few hours and all those entering the building had to get their names checked off a list.

Although Aamir left his residence couple of times during the day, he refused to speak to the media contingent gathered outside.

The couple alongwith the family and friends are expected to leave for Panchgani, about 200 kms from Mumbai, where they will usher in the New Year with a series of parties, expected to be attended by the film fraternity.

The duo met on the sets of Lagaan, where Kiran was assistant to director Ashutosh Gowariker.

This is the second marriage for Aamir, who has divorced his first wife Reena in 2003. However, it is the first marriage for Kiran.
