London, Jan 8(PTI) Singer Lily Allen has invited the wrath of British politicians and anti-drug campaigners with her statement that the ill effects of drugs are overrated. The 'Smile' singer admitted to using cocaine in a recent interview and claimed that problems associated with illegal substances have been sensationalised, the Daily Mail reported. She said, "The only story is that drugs are bad and they will kill you - you will become a prostitute, a rapist or a dealer. But that's not true.
"I know lots of people that take cocaine three nights a week and get up and go to work everyday, no problem. But we never hear that side of the story. I just wish people wouldn't sensationalise this thing that just exists." But UK Shadow Home Secretary Dominic Grieve criticised Allen as being "naive" and added that her statements were "dangerous and stupid" David Haynes, head of the National Drug Prevention Alliance, commented, "When someone like Lily Allen makes these remarks she is only harming young people. We already have a major drug culture in the UK and she is affecting that." Allen was recently photographed smoking weed on her holiday in the Caribbean islands.
