Slumdog Millionaire is on a roller-coaster ride set to make India one very proud nation of over one billion people. The film, directed by Danny Boyle, has taken the honor of sweeping the Golden Globe Awards held on January 11, 2009 by winning all four categories it was nominated for, including Best Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Director, and Best Film. Clearly the crowd favorite, Slumdog Millionaire started its sweep by winning Best Screenplay - Simon Beaufoy. The screenplay is a brilliant adaptation of Vikas Swarup's novel "Q&A".
Thirdly, Danny Boyle wins the Best Director award for the film. His stunning depiction of Swarup and Beaufoy's vivid screenplay has taken Slumdog Millionaire to incredible new peaks. By the end of the night, it was no surprise that Slumdog Millionaire would step away with the greatest honor of them all - Best Film. Other Indian celebrities that graced the ceremony included cast members Anil Kapoor Dev Patel, and Freida Pinto, as well as Shah Rukh Khan. SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE touches on the life of Jamal Malik (Dev Patel), an impoverished orphan raised in the slums of Mumbai, who unexpectedly reaches the Rs. 20 Million question on India's version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Accused of cheating, he defends himself against the authorities by narrating his life on the streets - a sequence of mesmerizing tales which hold the key to all his right answers. Through Anthony Dod Mantel's exquisite cinematography, Beaufoy's beautifully orchestrated script, and Boyle's breath-taking execution, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE pays homage to Mumbai - The resilient city of unwavering spirit and unbridled passion. She is the city of dreams... Congratulations to the entire team of Slumdog Millionaire. It is now on to the grand-daddy of them all, the Oscars, set to be held on February 22, 2009. Slumdog Millionaire is set to release in India on January 29, 2009.
