Bollywood’s latest heartthrob is of a different kind. This one is all of eight years old and tugs at the emotional chords of even the stone/cold hearted.

Well, we are talking about Darsheel Safari, the Gujarati Jain boy, whose marvelous histrionics are to be seen to be believed in Aamir Khan’s recently released debut directorial venture , the super hit ‘Taare Zameen Par’. He plays the dyslexic child to perfection, and matches the actor perfectionist Aamir Khan, a feat which is almost impossible to achieve.

However, it seems that controversy is ready to engulf the child sensation! Just last Thursday, Darsheel is reported to have said, " I should have been chosen the best actor, not the best child actor. I am the hero, not Aamir."

When contacted, his mother Sheetal Safary, denied this. " He did say he should have been chosen the best actor, not the child actor, and why not? He asked me, "Mama, when I have got the jury award, why can’t I get the best actor award?But Sheetal hastens to clarify: " That’s obviously his statement, not mine, because his performance in the film was at par with that of Aamir. You know Aamir, he demands perfection and that’s what he got." Sheetal adds, "Don’t compare him with a Bachchan or a Shah Rukh Khan. He was a great actor and put up a great performance. Those emotions, apart from a little help from Aamir in understanding the scenes, came from within him. That’s how he is in real life. Shouldn’t he be appreciated for that?"

Meanwhile, Darsheel’s statements have been met with disgust by the industry. While Prahlad Kakkar, adman and father of Anjin, the child actor better known as the Britannia kid, refuses to believe that a child could make such a statement. He says, " These things matter to adults and not children.".

So who is to be blamed for this controversy, only time will tell. But one thing is for sure, imagine what would ‘TZP’ have been without actor and now director par excellante , Aamir Khan? Would a child actor like Darsheel succeed in bringing in the public and making the movie, a super duper hit?

The answer is but obvious!
