Los Angeles , Feb 7 (PTI) American Idol star Fantasia Barrino is ready to go back to school and earn her high school degree, after dropping out of school about a decade ago in the ninth grade. "I've been talking about it for so long. I have a lot of young people who look up to me, like my 15-year-old brother and 7-year-old daughter. It's something that I really need to do and that I want to do," said the seven time Grammy nominated singer.

Fantasia who dropped out of school after being raped by a class mate, rose from poverty to fame after she won the third season of the television series 'American Idol' in 2004.

Fantasia who has been nominated for a Grammy this year for the duet 'I'm His Only Woman' with Jennifer Hudson said that she realised the need to be educated after she faced the possibility of one of her homes being foreclosed and put up for auction.

"I had to sit back for a while and had to get some things settled..I had to handle my own business as this was not just about me but my whole family." E! Online reported her as saying.

Fantasia is hoping to release her third album later this year and is also in talks to star in a reality show about her own life.

"2008 was a crazy year for Fantasia, '09 is totally different, '09 is my year," said the singer.
