Paris, Mar 19 (PTI) The 3-D comic adventure "Up" will become the first animation movie to inaugurate the prestigious 62nd Cannes Film festival this year, the organisers said. Produced by John Lasseter, co-founder with Steve Jobs of Pixar studios bought up by Disney in 2006, the film will have its world premiere at Cannes on May 13. "Up" will release in the US on May 29 and on July 20 in France.
"Up" is a delightful story of 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen, voiced by Ed Asner, who ties his house to thousands of balloons and take off to the wilds of South America in his search for solitude. However, he discovers a nine-year-old stowaway in his house. The jury of the Cannes is headed by French actress Isabelle Huppert. The two week long festival starts from May 13. The other animated films to be screened at Cannes in the recent years are "Shrek" in 2001, "The Triplets of Belleville" in 2003, "Shrek-2" in 2004, "Over The hedge" in 2006, "Kung-Fu Panda" in 2008 and "Waltz with Bashir" in 2008.
