Washington, April 1(PTI) The childhood home of guitar legend Jimi Hendrix has been demolished following a ruling by the local authorities of Renton. Despite an eight-year USD 100,000-effort by a Seattle real-estate investor Pete Sikov, a Hendrix devotee, the historic structure is gone, reported Seattle Times. The dilapidated structure where Hendrix first started playing his guitar, a single stringed 'ukulele', was brought down by a demolition crew yesterday.
Sikov said that he now plans to collect memorabilia from the demolished home and collect them safely for display purposes. The "Purple Haze" singer, who died in 1970 following a drug overdose, is buried at Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery which is just across the street from his childhood home. That's where his fans still flock to his memorial and leave everything from guitar, notes to flowers.
