Thalassemia is an inherited blood disease that results in inhibits the synthesis of one of the globin chains that make up hemoglobin, which can cause the formation of abnormal hemoglobin molecules, thus causing anemia.

The actress came to the Thalassaemia Society of India and interacted with the patients.

Chawla also highlighted the issues regarding blood donations, scarcity of blood in blood banks, etc.

She emphasised on developing the habit of donating blood which could help someone to live.

She said, “I am coming here after three years and I am happy to see the progress.”

Chawla asserted that measures have to be taken in order to prevent this pathetic disease from spreading.

She said, “People must test their bloods before fixing marriage, as it can ensure them whether they are at the risks of carrying a thalassemic child.”

She also highlighted the poor conditions of blood banks and said that the facility of blood preservation must be upgraded immediately.
