Post ´Banaras´ (Hindi) And ´Banaras´ (Malayalam) Filmworld Forgets Varanasi Ghats!
- Planet Bollywood Special Correspondant           Let us know what you think about this story

The holy city of Benaras/Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh holds its place in heart of Indians world over.

Apart from being the most sacred cremation place for Hindus, it also is known for its 'Ganga-Jamni' tradition (Tehzeeb), right from late Bismilla Khan's 'Shehnai' to the traditional 'Benarsi Sewai'.

Even Bollywood has not been untouched by the pious city and right from Dilip Kumar's 'Sunghursh' to Urmalia Matondkar's 'Banaras-A Mystic Love Story', not many films have been shot there.

Just last a couple of years back Malayalam cinema's 'Banaras, directed by Nemom Pushparaj, adorned the ghats of the city.

Unfortunately. with makers preferring Goa and Kullu-Manali, Bollywood seems to have forgotten the mindblowing and serene atmosphere of the city. Even when the film requires Benaras as backdrop, films like 'Chingari' have decided to put up a set elsewhere!

Here's hoping that the makers' give Varanasi aka Benares its due!
