Kochi, Jun 10 (PTI) Hectic efforts are on to amicably settle the row between Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (MACTA), the apex body of 19 trade unions in the Malyalam film industry and the Directors union. MACTA and repsentatives of Indian Film Employees Confederation (IFEC) and Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) are holding parleys with various film bodies for the second day today to resolve the differences. IFEC and FEFSI representatives had met members of the MACTA federation and directors union last night and the peace talks would continue today also, MACTA sources said.
The row broke out when Dileep, who agreed to act in a film by director Thulasidas, later backtracked after accepting an advance, reportedly as the director's last film had failed in the box office. The issue was brought before the MACTA Federation by Thulasidas. The federation decided to boycott Dileep after all efforts to persuade him to act in the film failed. Director Siddiq, in whose film Dileep was to act, protested saying such a ban cannot be imposed on creative artistes. Vinayan allegedly used harsh words prompting a spate of resignations by top Malayalam film directors from the federation. The directors are reportedly keen to form a parallel union.
