"Bapu" song for ´Lage Raho Munnabhai´ Was The Toughest Job : Kirkire

"It took all my knowledge and skill. Writing the song, 'Bande mein tha dum...,' on the Father of the Nation in a tapori style was the craziest as well as most responsible thing I have have ever done in my professional life. Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra approached me with this idea and I thought it would be great to use the words Vande Mataram in the song," says Kirkire, who received the National Award this year for 'Lage Raho Munnaibhai'.

"In order to avoid any controversy utmost attention was paid to each and every word as any irresponsibility on my part could have created a national issue. I have seen people clapping while listening to the song. That is my greatest achievement," he adds.

Getting a national Award was a motivation for Kirkire who says, "When somebody recognises your work, it gives satisfaction. I will give the credit to the team of Munnabhai without whom it would not have been possible."

The lyricist, who does not like to be labeled as a person who writes only certain type of songs, says, "I did 'Jai Santoshi Maa, which was a hit but that was not my kind of lyrics. I came to Mumbai to become a director but after trying my hand at acting and singing, I somehow became a lyricist. My major breakthroughes came with 'Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi' with Sudhir Mishra."
