Srinagar, June 17 (PTI) After popular Pakistani sufi rock band "Junoon," it is the turn of two other famous groups from across the border to enthrall Kashmiris. Noted 'Qawals' from Pakistan Amjad Khan Sabri and Ajoka Theatre Group will perform during the three-day International Sufi Music and Dance Festival commencing from Thursday at Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre on the banks of Dal Lake. About 100 artistes from Pakistan, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Syria besides India will participate in the event, spokesman of Jammu and Kashmir State Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Javid Rahi said today.
"This is for the first time that Internationally famed 'Qawals' and Ajoka Group are going to perform here," Rahi said. Besides the two groups, artists Radhika Chopra and Meeta Vashist are also scheduled to perform. He said performance of internationally renowned groups from five countries was a part of efforts to encourage cultural exchanges between various nations and ethnicities. "Since the state has a long history of Sufi traditions, the artistes are keen to perform here. This will go a long way in flourishing our cultural traditions and woo the tourists from around the globe to witness the event."
