New Delhi, Jun 18 (PTI) The Indian film industry has for the past few years been witnessing a revolution of sorts where 'small budget films' popularly known as 'Thinking Films' are increasingly making their marks in the minds of cine lovers. In the recent past, films that had a huge budgets, big star cast and big directors have bombed at the box office, whereas films like "Bheja Fry", "Iqbal", "Khosla ka Ghosla" and "Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd." did extremely well even without a popular star cast and with limited budgets.
According to estimates controversial film "Black Friday", directed by Anurag Kashyap, earned collections between 8 to 9 crores, while its cost was Rs 6.5 crores and Sriram Raghavan directed "Johnny Gaddar" earned collections between Rs 4 to 4.5 crores and was made at the cost of Rs 2 to 2.5 crores. Given the success rate of these kind of movies, Aaamir Khan was once quoted as saying, "With the popularity of these small budget films on the rise, I would also like to do films of such different approach."
