New Delhi, Jun 18 (PTI) When Bollywood actor Salman Khan visited Romania to shoot for a film he was mobbed by locals who treated him with the same kind of adulation normally reserved for rock stars.

The picturesque East European country famed for its breathtaking locales is already a favourite of filmmakers from India who are scouring locations for their upcoming films according to the ambassador of Romania.

"Romania represents an attractive destination for the Indian film industry. When the first Indian film 'Shree 420' was screened in Romania in 1950s, people were amazed to see the liveliness and real emotions on screen. These films have so much humour and are without violence and pornography," Vasile Sofineti, the Romanian Ambassador told PTI.

"We are ready to have an partnership with India so that filmmakers from both countries can easily shoot their films in the other country," he adds.

So far two films have been shot in Romania. Sanjay Dutt's yet to be released 'Dost - My Friend' and Salman Khan's 'Kyon Ki...' were picturised in the beautiful locales of Romania.

"When Salman Khan came here, he was very surprised with his popularity. People were screaming aloud his name and everybody wanted his autograph. Romanians can identify Indian actors better than Indians themselves. We have lot of private channels where you can see two to three Hindi films in a week," says Sofineti.
