Mumbai, Jun 19 (PTI) Maharashtra government today said actor Shiney Ahuja, accused of raping a domestic help, will be tried in a fast track court and financial assistance will be given to the victim after the National Commission for Women (NCW) held that "prima facie rape had been proved". "This matter will be given to a fast track court so that this case comes up for hearing quickly and justice is delivered soon," Chief Minister Ashok Chavan told reporters here after meeting NCW chairperson Girija Vyas who had come with a team to enquire into the incident. "We will give all financial assistance from the state government and ensure rehabilitation of the victim," Chavan said, adding that steps would be taken to ensure that she resumes her normal life.
Vyas said she was happy with the investigations by the police. "Prima facie it has been proved that there has been rape. The rape has taken place of a poor girl and no matter who has done it, that person should face justice," Vyas said. The NCW chairperson met the victim and Ahuja's wife Anupam during the day-long visit to the city. The 35-year-old actor, arrested on June 14 for allegedly raping his maid at his residence on Sunday in suburban Oshiwara, was remanded to judicial custody till July two by a local court yesterday.
