The remake of Feroz Khan's 1980 blockbuster, 'Qurbani', may reportedly be directed by Sanjay Gupta. For Feroz Khan, who had grand plans of casting his son Fardeen and Saif Ali Khan in the roles, originally played by himself and Vinod Khanna, it's one of his closest dream to remake 'Qurbani' (now titled 'Kurbani'). Sources reveal that, if Gupta hadn't come forward to take on the responsibility, the project would have gone into the cold storage. For those who are not aware, Sanjay Gupta is a die-hard Feroz Khan fan and this remake is his way of paying a tribute to the cinema of 80s that he has always admired. Reprtedly, Feroz Khan was so impressed by Gupta's enthusiasm that he decided to produce the new 'Kurbani' jointly with him.
Presently, Fardeen is slated to step into his father's role. The stars to play Vinod Khanna, Zeenat Aman and Amjad Khan's roles are yet to be decided. Gupta was faced with a choice of casting Vinod and late Amjad's sons, but found the idea too gimmicky, and will not play around with his homage to the hit film and its flamboyant maker. But what is likely is that Mallika Sherawat will play Zeenat's role. And some of the original 'Qurbani' music by Kalyanji-Anandji and Biddu, including late Nazia Hasan's 'Aap Jaisa Meri Koi Meri Zindagi Mein Aaye', will be retained. Final confirmation/announcement is yet to be made by both the concerned parties.
