Kolkata, June 23 (PTI) Ignoring the lure of mega bucks and publicity, a group of young scientists are toiling hard in doing research on human genome and other pure science fields in one of the top scientific research institute in the country. And their dedication and spirit has inspired eminent film-maker Goutam Ghose to capture their story on celluloid. In a docu-feature on Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB), the premier institute of biomedical research located in the city, Ghose had captured the life and work of these handful of young scientists.
So when Ghose was asked to make a documentary on IICB, set up in 1935, by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the film-maker settled for a docu-feature format delving into personal life of the researchers. "There is a thin story line, based on real life incidents in the scientists' lives enacted in the environment of their institute where they spend hours together without sparing a thought about their families during crucial hours," Ghose told PTI. Ghose has built up his narrative mostly on human genetics research aspect of the institute and the scientists involved in the job. He also touched on other areas of the institute's vast modern biomedical research facilities in cellular physiology, biotechnology, genomics, immunology, and bi-product chemistry.
