The beta version of Dingora.com, the first of its kind Online film theater, launched today on June 24, 2010, allowing audiences to view Indian films in all genres, both short and feature length, including documentaries, online, legally, that, too, on the same night that they release in theaters.Indian Movie fans, especially those living outside India, where 95% of Indian films do not get a theatrical release, will be able to view high-definition films online on the same day they release in India, giving them incentive to stray away from illegal film viewing methods.
“Film rights-holders can reach the maximum possible audience, enjoy increased profits and beat piracy at its own game, all through a simple, online solution,” said Pankaj Sikka, founder of Dingora.com. “Film rights-holders can release high-definition, DRM protected films online on or before a film’s theatrical release date, set the purchase price of the online tickets, and can even geoblock films to ensure films only stream in regions devoid of a theatrical release.” “As a Filmmaker, Dingora provides me with immense possibilities to reach the world,” said film director Shivajee Chandrabhushan. “Just the thought that my film can reach any one with an internet connection, anywhere in the world excites me a lot.” Dingora.com opens a new world of possibilities for filmmakers whose films suffer from poor film distribution and sometimes from lack of a censor certificate to release in India. For example, Shekhar Kapur produced and directed by Pankaj Advani’s (‘Sankat City’) ‘Urf Professor’ premiers on Dingora.com—the film was never given a censor certificate to release in India. “Dingora is not just a great Web site to showcase indie films, but also a fantastic distribution platform for the blockbusters,” said Pankaj Advani. In addition to Advani’s ‘Urf Professor,’ Chandrabhushan’s National Award winning film ‘Frozen,’ and Jaideep Varma’s (‘Hulla’) documentary film ‘Leaving Home—The Life and Music of Indian Ocean” are also currently available for viewing. Film enthusiasts may view these films by using the invite code: press99. Ticket prices start at 99 cents.
