Mumbai, Jul 1 (PTI) In a dramatic sequence of events, former husband of actor Sanjay Dutt's wife Maanyata, Meraj- ur-Rehman allegedly escaped from the custody of Hyderabad police and was later arrested from a private TV news channel's office in central Mumbai. The Hyderabad police had recently taken Meraj's custody in connection with a case registered there and he is suspected to have escaped from outside a five star hotel in Mumbai this afternoon, they said.

"We are still trying to ascertain why the Hyderabad police took him to the five star hotel," said a senior Mumbai police officer.

After making the escape, Meraj is said to have contacted the private news channel and reached its office in central Mumbai's Mahalakshmi.

Meraj, who is accused of sending lewd messages and making obscene calls to Bollywood actresses, gave an interview to the channel and was later arrested from the basement office of the channel, a senior police officer said.
