Mumbai, Jul 2 (PTI) Filmmaker Sajid Khan said television and cinema is prone to "herd mentality" and are fast losing the capacity to surprise the audience. "Like in cinema, television producers are also sticking to tried and tested formulas to grab more eyeballs. When 'Nagina' became a success, there were 50 snake films. Similarly, on television too, one sees several success themes being oft-repeated," Sajid told PTI here today. He said there is no doubt that programming should be the best of the best and what the audience expects. But there should be a surprise element as well, Sajid, whose weekly TV show 'Sajid's superstars' will go on air on new general entertainment channel 'Colours' from July 25, said.
Filmmakers look upto television to promote their films, he said and added television has its own superstars. "But cinema has its own charm and glamour which television cannot match," Sajid said. Speaking about "Sajid's superstars", the television host-cum-film director said it was wrong to compare his show with 'Koffee with Karan'. "First, my show is in Hindi and it focusses on not just controversies and gossips involving the superstars. I discuss their lives, best and worst performances as well as different prevailing issues. They do a stand up comedy with me, play games and reveal many secrets. It is an interesting format," he said.
