In what may come as a shock to many Bollywood global superstar Shah Rukh Khan was detained for two hours at a US airport after American immigration officials spotted the 'Khan' in his name.

Shah Rukh was on its way to Chicago to attend a function to mark India's Independence Day when the incident took place at Newark airport.

"He was detained because his surname is Khan. He was kept until officials from the Indian embassy intervened. Now he has been released," informs Niloufer Qureshi, Shah Rukh's manager.

According to reports, the actor was detained after his name flashed on the computer. The surname 'Khan' features on the alert list of US airport officials since the 9/11 attacks. Shah Rukh was asked many questions about the purpose of his visit. Even his hand baggage was checked. Further he was not even allowed to make a single phone call for about an hour. The security officials at Newark Airport interrogated SRK for two hours.

This incident has taken place after SRK sealed a deal with Fox Star Studio for marketing the much awaited Karan Johar next flick 'My Name is Khan'. Incidentally the movie touches the same issues of the minorities being targeted for no reason and fault of theirs, based only on suspicion and no solid proof.
