Land Of The Dragon China Still To Warm Up To Bollywood!
- Planet Bollywood Special Correspondant           Let us know what you think about this story

While Indian films have managed to conquer territories like Malaysia, Indonesia and with 'Aisha' even Hong Kong, unfortunately the land of the dragon, that is mainland China has by and large not warmed up to Bollywood et al.

The interest in Indian film music and style has not translated in to much business in China. Bollywood filmmakers still have to break through the barriers of China’s highly regulated film market. The Chinese movie industry is protected by a quota system, which only allows around 20 foreign films, most from Hollywood, to be screened a year, and permission for foreign companies to shoot in the country are difficult to obtain.

In recent times Nikhil Advani’s 'Chandni Chowk to China', thanks to Warner Brothers, received a fairly wide release and represented the first A-budget crossbreeding of Bollywood and Hong Kong. While results of this genetic experiment were mixed, it might have started a new phase in India and China’s film histories.

Here's hoping for some breakthrough and collaboration between the entertainment industry of the two giants of Asia.
