Mumbai,Sep 3 (PTI) 'Jodhaa Akbar' is a contemporary film as it depicts the hope, morality and aspirations of a contemporary society, lyricist Javed Akhtar said. Mughal emperor Akbar was consiciously working for a secular society at the socio political level, which was unknown in Europe even though the word 'secularism' was coined there around the same time, Akhtar said at the DVD launch of Ashutosh Gowariker's film 'Jodha Akbar' here yesterday.

Akhtar, who wrote lyrics for the film, said when Ashutosh came up with the idea of "Jodhaa Akbar", he had his apprehensions.

"I wondered how the film would be accepted when facism and communalism were raising head. Besides, in Hindi cinema so far whenver a romantic association between two communities is shown, the girl is always from the minority community. This was as if to prove that the majority community was willing to assimilate but on their terms and conditions," pointed out the lyricist.
