It is for the very first time that the filmmaker is making an 'anti-hero' film- telling the tale of the greatest Sultan of Hindustan - the sharp , ambitious and larger-than-life Turk, Alauddin Khilji .

Sanjay Bhansali and Ranveer Singh have shared such a great equation over the years and have even worked together on two blockbuster movies. The filmmaker-actor duo, have always spelled magic at the box office and will now reunite for the third time.

As soon as Ranveer signed the film, the two celebrated with some home cooked Sindhi food which the filmmaker broke his diet for. Ranveer , despite his busy schedule, was also part of all the major festivities at Sanjay Leela Bhansali's house, including his recent Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

Says a source, "Ranveer Singh essays the role of the larger-than-life Alauddin Khilji in Padmavati. He will be portrayed in the film like never before and has been very excited about it ever since he signed the film. Alauddin Khilji is a character that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has long wanted to bring to life onscreen. Since the two share such a great equation off screen they cannot wait to start work on the movie and have their camaraderie and working chemistry, translate into cinematic magic. Ranveer is excited about the role, which promises to be his career's finest and is prepping for it in full swing."
