Karachi, Oct 5 (PTI) The owner of Karachi's only multi-cineplex believes that the latest releases from Bollywood are the biggest reasons for the revival of cinema culture in Pakistan. Moin-ur-Rehman built the four screen cineplex in Karachi's upmarket Seaview beach area in 2001 when Pakistan's cinema industry was at a dead end with cinema houses quickly being converted into shopping malls and offices because people were not willing to go to cinema houses and preferred to watch pirated versions of the latest Bollywood and Hollywood releases at home. Moin said the permission for Bollywood films to be released in Pakistan plus a quicker reach for Hollywood releases had brought back families to the cinema.
"Our cinema suffered because of the lack of production and infrastructure facilities in Pakistan and the filmmakers should be ashamed of the movies they have been creating in Pakistan," he added. He pointed out that even the recent Pakistani releases like "Khuda Ka Liya" and "Ramchand Pakistani" had their post production work done abroad. Moin said the idea behind the cineplex was to provide a safe and secure environment for families and couples to come and watch movies.
