Oscar-Grammy Winner Rahman Gets Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration

The Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration, 2009 has been conferred upon Oscar winning singer and music director A R Rahman.

The Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Narrainpur (Chhattisgarh) has also been chosen for the 25th award jointly with Rahman, a statement said here today.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi is likely to present the award on October 31, the martyrdom day of former prime minister Indira Gandhi.

The award consists of a citation and cash of Rs 2.5 lakh.

The earlier recipients of the award include Aruna Asaf Ali, Shankar Dayal Sharma, Javed Akhtar and A P J Abdul Kalam, the statement added.
