The day after 'Eid', also known as 'Baasi Eid', is supposed to be very good for the box-office. Muslims are traditionally known to carry on the festive mood to the next day and, therefore, collections are bountiful on 'Eid' as well as 'Baasi Eid'. But that is so if and only if there is positive talk about a film. Both the releases of this week – 'Kidnap' and 'Drona' – met with such a poor reaction from the audience that their collections actually dropped on 'Baasi Eid' day (Friday, October 3). The opening of the two films on Thursday (October 2) ranged from average to very good. The people associated with the two films, obviously, hoped that attendance in cinemas on the following day (Friday) would be even better owing to 'Baasi Eid'.
On Friday itself, the position was crystal clear. It had not, after all, been a bountiful Idd for the film industry. Both, 'Kidnap' and 'Drona' had been rejected by the classes and the masses, the young and the old, the men and the women.
