Jamia Millia University Confers Doctorate On Shabana Azmi

October end saw Shabana Azmi becaming a doctor for the third time. That is to say, she was conferred a doctorate for the third time last week!

The Jamia Milia University of Delhi, at its convocation ceremony, presented a trophy to bestow the honour on Shabana at a function in Delhi. Besides her, Naseeruddin Shah, Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan (leading scholar of Indian art, architecture and dance) and Asghar Ali Engineer (social reformer and theologian) were also conferred doctorates.

Prior to this, Shabana Azmi has been decorated with a similar honour by the Jadhavpur University of Calcutta and then by the Leeds University of the United Kingdom. It may be mentioned here that Azmi is also the winner of the Martin Luther King award of the Ann Arbour University of Michigan in the USA. This entitles her to be a visiting professor at the University.
