Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and Oscar winning music maestro AR Rahman are likely to be invited to the dinner being hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for US president Barack Obama at his residence on November 7, which was originally billed to be a private meal, but is now threatening to become a much larger affair.
Obama had sought a private dinner with the PM on the first evening in Delhi and initial plans were to limit the guest list to about 25-odd VIPs, which included UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and senior Cabinet Ministers Pranab Mukherjee, AK Anthony, P. Chidambaram and SM Krishna. Nehru-Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also figure in the list of invitees. While Cabinet Ministers and officials figure high on the list, efforts have also been made to put together a diverse group, including representatives from the world of arts and cinema. Aamir Khan and Rahman are being mentioned as probables along with scriptwriter-lyricist Javed Akhtar and actor wife Shabana Azmi. Akhtar is also a Rajya Sabha Member, while Shabana carries the tag of activist, having spoken up on various social and political issues.
