Not only is he likely to lose Rs. 80 lakh to a crore in the film under question but he has also been losing heavily in the films produced by Yash Raj in the last two years. The distributor, who is among the leading distributors of his circuit, has realised that he will not be able to bear the losses any longer. And so he has come to Yash Chopra to see if a formula can be worked out whereby he is insulated against any further losses.

This association between the distributor and Yash Chopra has been a very long one. Never in the past has the distributor felt the need to take a hard look at the facts and figures as this time. And it’s not because of recession alone.

The immediate cause is the most recent release ('Dostana') acquired by Yash Raj Film Dis­tributors and, in turn, given to the distributor for release in partnership, in the two sub-circuits. The bigger reason is the spate of flops Yash Raj has been dishing out since the last many months.
